What stands between the upriver stretch and the bay is the part that changes what you can own. A fixed highway bridge on US 41 crosses the Imperial River, and it sets a real ceiling on how tall a boat can move past that point — confirm the current clearance yourself rather than assuming your tower, hardtop or mast fits. Run the specification in that order — position, then boat, then lift — and everything downstream is arithmetic. Run it backwards and you have bought capacity for a boat that cannot use it.
How does position change the lift itself?
Less in the rating, more in how the boat is held and how hard the hardware works.
Upriver, water in front of the dock has little room to build, and the boat mostly sits where you leave it. A ski parked in the main slip has to be moved before the boat can go anywhere, and cradle hardware built for several thousand pounds does not hold one well. A dedicated jet ski lift — wall-mounted where a canal off the river is tight — is usually the arrangement that resolves both.
How do you land on the right capacity?
By building the number up from the boat you own rather than reading it off a brochure.
The brochure number is a dry hull off the factory line. Then the question nobody asks until the quote arrives: what carries all of it. On a dock-mounted lift, the pilings — their size, spacing, and how they were driven. On a wall-mounted lift, a seawall built to resist a steady push and now asked to take a load that comes and goes every time you do. A lift mounted to a seawall with no dock is a legitimate and common answer on tight water; it just moves the structural question from the pilings to the wall, which is worth asking before you fall for a model.

Three things, and none of them is a model number.
